Poukura Marae

Project Overview:

Poukura Pā Reservation Trust initiated a crucial project to combat the rapid erosion of the Lake Taupō shoreline near Poukura Marae. The goal was to implement a sustainable, long-term solution to protect and preserve the land for future generations.

Project Scope:

The project involved constructing a 100-metre rock revetment wall along the shoreline. Additionally, land lost to erosion was reinstated, with rock revetment placed similarly to the remains of the previous timber wall that had eroded away.

Community Benefits:

With a design life of over 50 years, the new rock revetment wall is expected to serve the marae for decades. This long-lasting solution provides stability and peace of mind for the community, ensuring the preservation of their sacred land.
