Project Overview:
The Taupō Great Lake Pathway upgrade was initiated by Taupō District Council in 2020. This significant infrastructure improved aimed to enhance the popular lakeside walkway, transforming it into a more accessible and versatile shared pathway for pedestrians and cyclists.
Project Scope:
The project involved the removal and replacement of approximately 7 kilometres of existing footpath along the scenic Great Lake Walkway. The path was widened from its original 1.5 metres to a spacious 3 metres, creating a shared bike and footpath. This extensive renovation required careful planning and execution to minimise disruption to the community.

The wider, smoother surface accommodates Taupō residents and visitors alike, with improved accessibility for all and enhanced safety for pedestrians and cyclists in the area.
