Camex Taupo team were tasked to install three Stormwater Downstream Defenders in the larger catchment areas in the Taupo District.
Two units were 2550 Ø installed in Turangi and within the Two-Mile Bay Boat ramp carpark and a third 3000 Ø unit in the Hawai Street reserve.
Our team carried out installation at depths of up to 5 meters, whilst encountering challenging conditions which included running sand at the Hawai Street Reserve and the excavation at the Two-Mile Bay Boat ramp being equal to the height of the adjacent lakefront, where the Camex team utilised some seven of our dewatering pumps and a Lamella Clarifier.
The Hynds Downstream Defenders have been installed into existing stormwater lines to improve the water quality that enters the waterways/ lake. The defenders then remove all pollutants using a vortex which directs towards the sump of the chamber over a range of flow rates, separates, treats and then the cleaned stormwater is then directed back to the outlet. Being underground, they reduce the size of the footprint with both having an inlet with an S bend and no internal bypass, whilst improving the ecological status.
