Our History

1983

Our passion for Earthmoving starts when Jon Brewer works for Cable Price and does his apprenticeship in diesel mechanical. After 3 years he gains his mechanics certificate becoming a fully-fledged diesel mechanic.

Throughout his time at Cables he becomes interested in excavators, and begins dreaming of owning his own business one day.

1987

Jon is part of the Camtract team that constructs the Tamahere bypass interchange on State Highway 1 near Hamilton.

1992

Jon is part of the Camtract team that constructs the Tamahere bypass interchange on State Highway 1 near Hamilton.

1994

Jon went to work on the family farm in Te Miro when Geoff Powell moved down to the West Coast.

1998

Jon started Cambridge Excavators (Camex) as an owner operator.

2007

Jason Brewer (Jons son) starts working in the business and works to get his drainlaying, water reticulation and civil infrastructure pipelaying qualifications.

2010

2013

Nathan Wolland joins the team.

2014

10th employee Darryl Cobb joins the team. First commercial drainage project is secured.

2015

Our first residential subdivision project is secured.

2016

Rebranded as Camex Civil to represent the focus and work that we now do.

Full-time staff numbers hit 70+. New management structure with specialists management team, specialist environment, health and safety and quality management roles.

Creation of a specialist water reticulation team. Significant new Council projects.

2019

Camex Civil - History - 2019 specialist maintenance division
Full-time staff numbers hit 100+. Creation of specialist maintenance division and technical support roles. First Council maintenance contracts underway.

2020

Camex Civil - History - 2020 complex process infrastructure projects
Full-time staff numbers hit 100+. Camex completes multiple complex process infrastructure projects throughout central north island.

2021

Staff numbers reach 150 across the Waikato region and Taupō. Investment in sheet piling equipment.

Establishment of Taupō Branch, with regional project management structure.
Camex Civil - History - 2021 Traffic Management
Expansion of in-house Traffic Management for both Greater Waikato and Taupō Regions.
Camex Civil - History - 2021 Taupo 3 Waters
Creation of dedicated 3 waters and Pavement Teams based in the Taupō Region. Camex is appointed to the Taupō 3 Waters Infrastructure Construction panel for the next two years.
Camex Civil - History - 2021 Taupo Centre Transformation Project Construction
Camex is appointed to the Taupō Centre Transformation Project Construction panel under the Government funded CIPP shovel ready projects.

2022

Camex Civil - History - 2022 Management System Certification
Company Management system received certification to ISO45001, ISO9001:2006 and ISO14001:2015 Standards.
Camex Civil - History - 2022 New Projects
Securing new flagship projects including the 3MS Subdivision in Cambridge and Rotorua Freedom Lifestyle Village.
Camex Civil - History - 2022 New Equipment
Bulk order of new plant, including GPS Excavators, Tractor Trailer units, Tipper Trucks, Traffic Management Trucks and smaller powered plant.
